Is it possible to register in both the local and international competitions?
Each participant should participate in one category only, and one competition only.
Can people from inside and outside the UAE register for the international competition?
Yes. The international competition is open for ages and all countries including the UAE.
What is the measurement of the paper used in the local calligraphy competition and the size of the pen?
The measurement of the paper should be 50x35 cm. Participants are free to use the pen size suitable for them.
Is it permissible to sign in Arabic calligraphy?
Yes, you must sign the Arabic calligraphy board, whether in the international or local competition.
Can we use colored ink in the local and international calligraphy competitions?
Yes. You can use colored ink in the local and international competitions.
What is the size of paper and size of pen in the international competition?
Paper size: 50x70 cm. It is permissible to use the appropriate pen size according to the commonly accepted rules in Thuluth Jali and Thuluth Adi styles.
Is it allowed to participate with a copy or image of the artwork?
No. The original artwork must be delivered to the competition's address.
What is the deadline for submitting the work?
The last date for submission of works is October 15, 2024.

How to send poetry/ multimedia participations?
Poetry and multimedia entries, and any questions and correspondences relating to the award should be addressed to the following email: award@albdr.ae
Is it permissible to write the text of the Arabic Calligraphy International Award category on two papers?
It is not permissible. The text must be written on only one sheet of paper in which the clear thuluth and regular thuluth scripts are combined.
Is it allowed to participate with an artwork that has won before?
No. It is not allowed to participate in an artwork that has won before.
What is the size of the canvas in the painting category?
Age group A: at least 20x30 cm. Age group B: at least 30x40 cm. Youth category: at least 40x60 cm.
Are there certain colors or materials that we have to use in the painting category?
It is available to use all types of commonly known materials such as colors and pens
Is it allowed to participate with more than one poem?
Participants must enter the competition with one poem only.
What is the number of verses for the poem in the poetry category?
In the local competition: If the poem is vertical, it should be between 10 – 25 verses. If the poem is free verse (tafilah), it should be between 15-30 sections. In the international competition: If the poem is vertical, it should be between 15 – 30 verses. If the poem is free verse (tafilah), it should be between 20-35 sections.
Is participation in the poetry category allowed in nabati or only formal Arabic?
Participation in the award should be in Formal Arabic only. The poem should be written in the style and form of either vertical or free verse (tafilah) poetry.
